The Diaphanous Sea

Step into the river,
Allow your thoughts to flow,
Remove the blocking boulder,
Feel water trickle between your toes.

Stretch your arms so far apart:
Wider than a bird, justice, the word,
A word which spurred unspoken.
You can’t ask for magic anymore,
Not while the wind beats the sand,
Yet you wonder how it can be,
The heliconia drift down as they ebb upstream?
I count yourself among the ripples,
The furthest one.

Listen to the river,
Watch the rings in the puddle fade,
Each is one of your victories,
Which you failed to convey.

The cause of the splash:
Louder than thunder, virtue, a wonder,
A wonder which you’ve lost sight of.
Swim under a red seascape,
So crystal and colourless,
And you wonder how it can be,
The diaphanous sea is thick with mystery?
I count yourself among the ripples,
The closest one.

Surrender to the river,
Allow your thoughts to flow,
I count yourself among the ripples,
The failed one.
